Carpet Deodorizer

Here is an easy way to fragrance your carpet without the use of toxic chemicals. And, as with most of my recipes, it’s cheap! All you need is baking soda and essential oil(s). Once made, you can store them in a mason jar or any jar (such as large plastic spice or food bottles) that have holes for shaking out the contents. Essential oils, not only impart a pleasant scent to your home, they also contain medicinal properties. I keep a kit containing over 20 oils that are useful for all types of purposes. You may be interested in ordering a great beginner’s book called The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy.  The following recipes are not from her book, but she has many inspiring ideas to help spur on creative ways to use essential oils.

Warm Winter

1 small box (1 lb.) baking soda
5 drops clove oil (Remember that cloves will dissolve plastic, use glass to store)
3 Tbls. ground cinnamon or 5 drops cassia oil
5 drops bergamont oil
10 drops orange oil

Shake vigorously in a closed mason jar until contents are uniform. Sprinkle on carpet, then vacuum.

Spring Time Clean

1 small box (1 lb.) baking soda
5 drops lavender oil
5 drops ylang ylang
5 drops jasmine oil
3 drops grapefruit oil

Shake vigorously in a closed mason jar until contents are uniform. Sprinkle on carpet, then vacuum.
