Is Soy Healthy

Soy FoodsIs Soy Healthy? Well, yes and no… Fermented products such as tofu, miso, and tempeh are very good for you (when eaten as a condiment and never as a replacement to meat products.)  However, soy milk, which is basically a by product of the vegetable oil industry, has been linked with causing various forms of thyroid cancer and other diseases.  It contains high levels of aluminum, which is harmful to the kidneys and the nervous system.  Additionally, it is very high in phytic acid, which, when digested, reduces assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc.  Lastly, do not be tempted to give your children soy milk, especially the infant formula version!  Soy is the plant form of estrogen.  Also, diets high in phytic acid have caused growth problems in children on this diet.  If you have a milk allergy, be sure to research all other options like raw goats milk, kefir, and coconut milk or soaked and dehydrated almonds, which can be made into fresh almond milk using a Vita-Mix.
